Liposuction is a method of vacuuming excess fat by breaking it down within the body. It can be applied to all areas with high levels of fatty tissue, such as the neck, abdomen, waist, back, arms, hips, buttocks, and legs. While it provides excellent results on elastic skin, it is not sufficient on its own in cases of loose skin and requires skin tightening.

How is the Procedure Performed?
Small incisions are made in areas with high levels of fat, and tubes are inserted. The fat is then broken down and vacuumed out. In recent years, innovations such as vibrolipo, vaser, and laserlipo have been introduced to liposuction. Lasers (Accusculpt, Smartlipo, Slimlipo) allow for easier fat breakdown within the body.

Local anesthesia is used for small areas; for larger areas, intravenous numbing and local anesthesia are used. General anesthesia is preferred when performed in addition to a skin tightening procedure or when performed on multiple areas at once.

What is the Treatment Duration?
After the procedure, the patient is usually discharged the same day. If the procedure is performed on multiple or larger areas, an overnight hospital stay may be beneficial. After the procedure, a special corset or elastic garment or stockings are worn. This facilitates movement and reduces swelling. Initial bruising, swelling, and numbness may occur in the area where the fat was removed, but this is temporary. The swelling is unnoticeable in the first week, and weight loss is imperceptible. The swelling dissipates in the second week, and results are noticeable within 4-6 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does liposuction cause deformities?
After vacuum removal of fat, if the skin is elastic, tightening is easily achieved and no deformity is observed. If the skin is not elastic, a tightening procedure is necessary.

What happens if I regain weight?
Liposuction is performed on areas of the body that store fat. These are the areas where fat accumulates during weight gain. Liposuction reduces fat storage. In other words, if a person doesn’t follow their diet and regains weight after the procedure, fat accumulation occurs more generally rather than in the treated areas, and the weight gain is more evenly distributed throughout the body.
