Whether congenital or resulting from accidents, facial bones, cartilage, and tissues can cause disproportion, deformity, or dysfunction in the facial area. A facial implant is used to address issues such as bone curvature, damage, or fractures, bone deformity, or an unnatural appearance of the jaw or cheekbones.

How is the Surgery Performed?
If not combined with another surgery, it can be performed under local anesthesia and sedation, or under general anesthesia. Facial implants are often placed in two distinct areas: the chin (lower jaw, upper jaw, chin tip) and the cheekbone. Depending on the patient’s specific needs, a single implant or multiple implants can be placed in different areas. The desired shape and volume are achieved by placing the implants on the bone without directly interfering with the bone structure.

Chin Implants
Chin implants are a procedure used in cases of accidental fractures or subsequent jaw disproportion, or in cases where the chin and chin are small, large, receding, or disproportionate to the face and nose. During the procedure, chin implants are placed through a single midline incision in the groove beneath the lower teeth. Following the surgery, a bandage is applied to the implanted area. Regular cold application is performed. Once the tissues heal after this surgery, dermal filler is applied to the tip of the chin to provide the necessary contouring and definition.

Cheekbone Implants
Cheekbone implants are used to correct congenital or acquired disproportionality, balance the cheekbones and cheeks, and enhance the natural profile. These implants are placed through an incision made in the groove above the upper teeth. Implants shaped to best suit the facial contours are placed through these incisions. This mucosal incision heals quickly and without leaving any scars. If necessary, the implants can be supported with fat injections during this surgery, or appropriate levels of facial filler can be applied after the tissues have healed.

Treatment Process
It is important to stay in the hospital for a few days after facial implant placement. This ensures a safer initial period and allows for a doctor’s supervision. Afterward, until the stitches are removed, care should be taken, avoid straining, and eat as directed by the doctor. It is important to be mindful of medications, dressings, and changing bandages.
