The thinnest skin in the body is found on the eyelids. Consequently, signs of aging, such as excess skin and sagging, are most visible in this area. Wrinkles and bags are more prominent under the eyes. Blepharoplasty is often performed to eliminate a tired, older appearance and sometimes to improve vision.

In some cases, eyelid aesthetics may include the forehead, eyebrows, and midface, in addition to the eyelids and under the eyes. In such cases, a comprehensive examination of the surrounding tissues is performed, and procedures such as a brow lift, forehead lift, and midface rejuvenation may also be performed.

How Is the Procedure Performed?
Anesthesia varies depending on the extent of the area being treated. Local anesthesia may be used for eyelid surgery alone. Surgery for the entire eyelid area involves local anesthesia along with intravenous sedation, while general anesthesia may be used for larger areas.

As with any cosmetic surgery, eyelid surgery is planned individually. Decisions regarding fat removal or relocation, tightening of the outer layer of the eyelid, or muscle tissue manipulation are made based on the individual’s needs. The procedure, which involves both eyelids, takes an average of 40 minutes, but can take up to 1.5 hours for the entire eye area.

Treatment Process
Following the surgery, waterproof, vision-proof tapes are placed on the upper and lower eyelids, and cold compresses are applied at regular intervals. Swelling increases in the first two days, decreasing by the third day, and the tapes are removed on the fourth day. Extremely hot baths should be avoided for several weeks.
